Lower back pain on left side is very common. The lower left side of the back usually is the part where most people experience pain. This condition is categorized into chronic and acute. Chronic back pain is a more severe condition where the pain lasts for months, while acute back pain is described as sharp stinging pain that lasts for hours.

Lower left back pains can also be caused by health related issues such as kidney infection, pregnancy and muscle spasms. If you have any of these conditions, you are at high risk of developing back pains. Try to notice if it hurts when you breathe, this could be indications of more severe back problems. Back pains should not be neglected. Although you can easily get rid of it temporarily by taking pain killers and antibiotics, it is still best to consult your doctor. In some cases, it will be hard to determine whether the problem is already severe. Although one can suggest that when the pain is intense, it may mean that the condition is serious. However, certain cases such as herniated disc may not cause the patient as much pain as strained muscles but it is definitely more dangerous. This is why even when you think it’s not very painful, you should never ignore it.  

Back Pain due to Pregnancy 

For pregnant women, experiencing pain in the left lower back is common. The reason for this is that, while the uterus is growing, the expansion results to a change in the center of gravity of the body. It can also be caused by hormonal changes and weakening of abdominal muscles while the baby is developing. The added weight that the person carries during pregnancy will increase the pressure and strain to the lower back, changing the body’s posture and causing pain.  

Back Pain due to Muscular Injury 

If even while breathing, you’re still experiencing back pains, this may be signs of muscle injury. Sudden movements trigger muscular spasms and can be really painful. The muscles in your diaphragm must have been pulled, radiating pain throughout your chest, abdomen and lower back. 

Back Pain due to Kidney Infection 

Kidney infection is a case where the person’s kidney is swollen. When this happens, the pain is felt throughout the area surrounding it. The kidneys are located right above the hips, which is why you feel the pain in your left lower back. Kidney problems are often associated with a burning sensation when you urinate. If you are experiencing back pains together with this type of symptom, you should consult a physician immediately.  

Finding treatment for lower back pain relief will depend upon what is causing the problem. For back pains experienced by pregnant women, this is usually alleviated through simple stretches recommended by the doctor or a physical therapist. For those with kidney problems, antibiotics are prescribed along with a specific change in diet. If the cause of the pain is not among those mentioned above, then you can try other alternatives such as common exercises for back pain relief and a lot of products available in the market.  

When none of these helps, it may be that the case has already developed into a more serious condition. It is always wise to tell your doctor about it.
